Chapel Hill High School hosted the 3A individual wrestling Mideast Regional tournament on February 9–10.
Junior Zin Muang (120 pounds) was the lone Tiger to earn a bid to the state championships. After losing his first match, Muang worked his way through the consolation bracket and advanced to the third-place match. Muang lost the bout but still secured fourth place at the event.
Senior captain Bradley Kenyon (195 pounds) finished the tournament with a 3–2 record. Kenyon won his first three matches but fell in the semi-finals and then in the consolation bracket.
Freshman Ta’Vonne Paige (106 pounds) followed up a first-round loss with three straight consolation bracket wins but was defeated in the consolation semi-finals. Paige ended with a 3–2 record during the competition.
Although the Midwest Regional was a individual wrestling event, points were recorded for each team that participated. Chapel Hill tallied 39.5 points, good for 14th out of the 26 teams that attended the contest. Southeast Guilford High School took first place with 186 points.
The 3A state championships will take place February 16–17 at the Greensboro Coliseum.
