The Chapel Hill men’s basketball team’s season came to an end on Tuesday night after the Tigers were defeated by South Johnston High School 61-46 in the first round of the NCHSAA 3A state playoffs.
The Tigers trailed South Johnston by seven points at the end of the first half and held even in the third quarter to keep the deficit within three possessions going into the fourth quarter.
The Spartans outscored the Tigers 22-14 in the final quarter, securing the victory and knocking Chapel Hill out of the tournament.
Chapel Hill finished the season with an overall record of 15-11 despite starting the season 8-1. The Tigers placed fourth in the Big Eight 3A conference with a 8-6 mark in league play.
