Bloom Fest, the local nonprofit We Sense’s celebration of spring, will take place Sunday, May 19, on the plaza at Franklin and Church Streets.
We Sense, which is receiving support from the district’s Public School Foundation for the event, has previously contributed a booth at Festifall. The organizer is running a program, Community in Bloom, in which participants make and decorate container gardens that will be shown and judged at Bloom Fest.
At Chapel Hill High School, a few students in ceramics classes have made small garden displays that convey a message or illustrate a theme for the festival. We Sense provided plants for them to use.
The theme of Bloom Fest is “Planting A Dream,” and from 1 to 6 p.m., the festival will have events such as a pop-up garden, butterfly booth, youth music and dance performances, storytime from the public library and Paperhand Puppets.
As lead organizer of Bloom Fest, Ting-Ting Chu, the volunteer program director of We Sense, said that she has “enjoyed designing/planning programs and reaching out to find support and resources to make them happen.”
