Our lives are influenced by the time of the rise and fall of the sun in the sky. Once you change your clock next spring, you may never touch or look at it again.
Why? United States senator Marco Rubio introduced a bill last month to make daylight savings permanent; known as the Sunshine Protection Act, the bill has passed the Senate and awaits its fate in the House.
The Senate chose to do away with daylight savings, without consulting our school about the repercussions on Chapel Hill students. The dismay of waking up in wintertime and arriving at school in the dark will likely shatter students’ worldviews.
Chapel Hill High School freshman announced that a walkout in protest of this new bill will be held on February 31st of next year. “Be there or be square,” commented freshman Hazen Johnson. Ryan Reynolds will be providing a celebrity guest appearance at the protest.
But what is time?
Time isn’t real; big business lied to you. Our perception of time is being changed for companies to generate more revenue by having people stay out longer, shopping in the most depressing months of the year. John Rockefeller has truly come back in spirit.
Yet many students are concerned on how the time change will affect their academic, personal and figurative lives.
The school board has voted in favor of purchasing a faux sun in order to support students on arriving at school on time. Principal Blanchard will soon be in charge of scheduling the artificial sun’s rise and descent.
The artificial sun has been proven to have dire environmental impacts, including but not limited to sad bugs. Studies have shown that bugs do get upset by the presence of a faux sun; perhaps other sentient creatures do, too.
The school board hopes to increase the spending budget in the future in order to purchase the sun so students don’t have to rely on a faux one. Stay tuned…
