The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education appointed Steven Sullivan as Chapel Hill High School’s new principal on November 2, ending a months long search following the retirement of principal Charles Blanchard last spring.
Sullivan, currently the principal of North Brunswick High School, will assume the role in January 2024 at the beginning of second semester. He is “thrilled” to become a part of Chapel Hill High School.
“Having the opportunity to join a school and a district that are among the best in the state and the country is a tremendous honor and also very humbling,” Sullivan said. “I saw firsthand the maturity of the students, the supportiveness of the parents, the dedication of the teachers and staff and the student-centered focus of the district. For a lifelong educator such as myself, this is a dream come true.”
Sullivan has held numerous school leadership positions in various North Carolina counties; he was named the 2021-22 Brunswick County Schools Principal of the Year, the 2016-17 New Hanover County Schools Principal of the Year and the 2009-10 Pender County Schools Principal of the Year.
Shelba Levins, currently Chapel Hill High’s interim principal, will return to her role as assistant principal once Sullivan takes over.
Chapel Hill High School will conduct a virtual meet and greet with Sullivan, tentatively scheduled for Friday, November 17.
