Softball team finishes sixth in conference

Chapel Hill High School’s softball team placed sixth in the DAC-VII 4A conference with an 8-12 record this year.

Freshman Kes Duncan recorded 56 strikeouts this season, finishing second in the conference.

The team also had notable victories over rivals, including a 15-4 triumph against East Chapel Hill High School on March 30 and double-header wins against Hillside High School on April 26, thrashing the Hornets 17-1 and 22-9.

Head coach Jay Cotton is optimistic about next year and hopes to continue “to build the Chapel Hill softball program” by establishing a junior-varsity softball team.

While the team did not make the playoffs, senior Kahty Bolanos Villanueva said the camaraderie on the team was a defining element of the season.

“Each challenge has only brought the team closer together,” she said, noting that she will miss the “kindness and the sense of family of the team the most.”
